PREPOSITIONS-Introduction

Prepositions are used to show time, direction and position. They are usually used before nouns and pronouns.


The cat may be upon the table.

The cat may be near the table.

The cat may be beside the table

The cat may be on the table.

The cat may be under the table.

The cat may be beneath the table.

The cat may be by the table

Such words as: on - by - near - beside - upon - beneath - under- through - upon - above - over - near - across - along - up - down - with - behind - as they are used in the 'cat' example are called Prepositions.

Over or Above
