| Such words as: on - by - near - beside - upon - beneath - under- through - upon - above - over - near - across - along - up - down - with - behind - as they are used in the 'cat' example are called Prepositions. |

Over or Above |
The ball went over the fence. He spends above his income | Across | Sail across the sea. Sit across the saddle. |
| About | They went about their business | Below | He lives one floor below me. |
| Against | It is not easy to swim against the tide | Under | Under the circumstances she was released. |
| Beside | He is beside himself with anger | On/Upon | Sit upon the box. On this condition, I will trust you. |
