NOUN GROUPS

Nouns are naming words. We use them to label anything that can be seen, heard or thought.When we speak or write a noun we conjure up a picture of it in our mind. There are four kinds of NOUNS.

Common
Nouns

- are names of ordinary kinds of things- woman, boy, chair, cat , pencil

Proper Nouns

- are the names of particular people, places or things and always begin with a capital letter. -Saturday, Sydney, Arch de Triumph , Mary, John.

Collective Nouns

- are words naming groups of things or people that together are regarded as one whole. The crowd began to sing. Here "crowd" is a group of people. Examples of other collective nouns are 'herd', 'flock', 'team', 'class'.

Abstract Nouns

-are words naming feelings, qualities, states or actions. She had a FEAR of the dark. Some examples are 'bravery' 'love',,'wind', 'idea'.
