DISTRIBUTIVE PRONOUNS each, either, neither. These words are adjectives if followed by a noun. Each of the girls is shy. (pronoun) Each girl is shy. (adjective). Each of the boys has a skateboard. Neither statement is true. Take either half.

A pronoun is used instead of a noun to avoid repetition or clumsiness: eg. He for John; She for Mary; It for a cat

For example, we could say Where is Jane? Jane is at the shops. As this is repetitive we replace the second 'Jane' with a pronoun: Where is Jane? She is at the shops.
